This 100% Gamay is made from grapes sourced from two clay and limestone soil vineyards located mainly in the village of Flagey-Echézaux with a smaller portion coming fromthe village of Vosne- Romanée.
Fruit sourced by Pascal Marchand. Pascal and Moray only work with like-minded growers with whom they have longstanding relationships. The fruit is generally sourced from quality vines that are at least 35 years old from the finest terroirs. Many (but not all) of these vines are farmed organically or biodynamically. Every vineyard is immaculately kept by hand, from the canopy management and pruning to the harvest.
Aging lasts for 14 months: The wine is aged for 11 months in old French oak barrels (no new oak) and demi-muids, followed by 3 months in vat, including one racking before bottling. No fining and no filtration. All aging operations are carried out according to the lunar calendar based on biodynamic principles.
This is an incredible, unique wine from a legendary terroir. The Gamay shows the finesse, power, and complexity of its Echézaux and Vosne-Romanée terroirs, with a structure unlike many similarly priced wines from the region. Baskets of wild violets, and crushed blue fruits leap out of the glass, with undercurrents of peppery spices and dusty earth tones wafting around the edges. The refined, balanced structure of a true Côte de Nuits wine is unmistakable.
