2018 Dom. Serol Oudan De Butte en Blanc D'Urfe 750 ml

A family property since the eighteenth century, Domaine Serol organically farms 30 hectares in the foothills of the Massif Central, near the source of the Loire River. Once thought of as the lost Cru of Beaujolais, Cote Roannaise is in its own unique terroir, completely isolated from its region - which is technically the Loire - but it is home to some of the finest and most intriguing Gamay wines in France, and Domaine Serol is one of the best, especially Oudan, which comes from a single south-facing plot. Made from 30-80% de-stemmed grapes with indigenous yeast fermentation and minimal new oak, Oudan is elegant and supple, with ripe fruit aromas. The soils are plowed and the vines are nourished by the previous year's cuttings, by organic compost and by powdered limestone (to neutralize the soil's acidity). A previous vintage received 89 points from Wine Enthusiast, which said it was “a full and rich wine with impressive intensity and concentration. It has spice, pepper and warm black cherry fruits, with a layer of tannins.”
