The Field Street Shiraz is off vineyards that surround our Olivers Road home. In every sense
this wine is at the heart of S.C. Pannell. It’s where we have our vines in the ground and our
feet on the earth. A modern, warm-climate Shiraz stripped back from the artifice of winemaking to express the purity and breadth of McLaren Vale fruit. For me it’s all about the preservation of fruit flavours and not at the expense of losing weight nor richness.
Simply stated, 2018 was a solid year. A vintage without extremes that was kind to
both winemakers and vines alike. The fruit had lovely freshness and vivacity, the
crops were of an average size and there was consistency throughout despite the
dryness of the soil. Even the winemakers seemed to be enjoying themselves!
Variety 100 % Shiraz
Process Harvested in late Feb and early March, 9 to 12 days on skins before transfer to 2,800 litre French vats for 12 months. Bottled on the 7th of May 2019.
Flavour Profile Violets, raspberry coulis and the beautiful perfume of fresh berries. The nose is intoxicating. It’s all about the purity of the fruit with the added complexity of a bush track in summer. Structure & Texture Medium-bodied, velvety, plush, even and long. Lovely earthy tannins clean up the finish. Nothing overblown, all in balance.
