Beaujolais icon Jean Foillard is among France’s most revered vignerons. In charge of his family’s domaine since 1980, Foillard is a charter member of the quartet of Morgon growers mentored by the great Jules Chauvet, father of the French natural wine movement. Jean’s méthode ancienne means tending his vines organically, a 3-4 week traditional whole-cluster vinification, aging in neutral oak barrels, and doesn’t chaptalize, sulfur or filter his wines.

While not yet reviewed, the 2017 vintage received 93 points from Vinous Media: "Brilliant violet. A powerful, mineral-accented bouquet evokes ripe red/dark berries, potpourri and allspice, and a floral nuance builds in the glass. Bright, sappy and appealingly sweet, offering concentrated black raspberry, boysenberry and violet pastille flavors that tighten up slowly with aeration. Shows impressive depth as well as energy and closes smooth, mineral and very long, leaving a sexy floral note behind."
