Ichiro Akuto, the owner and legendary king of Japanese distilling, comes from a family that has been brewing in Chichibu since the 1700s. The distillery actually started producing whisky as early as 1946, although production was halted and only resumed in 2004.
This blend contains 5+-year-old Mars Komagatake Single Malt, distilled at Mars Shinshu in Nagano but aged at Chichibu Distillery in Saitama, and Ichiro’s Malt that has also been aged for 5+ years.
Maturation for both distillates in the blend took place in a combination of ex-bourbon, sherry, and American oak casks.
Nose: sweet with caramel, tropical fruit, and old oak notes
Palate: toffee and fruit on the pleasantly sweet palate with pineapple and a touch of ripe banana
Finish: fruity finish with hints of brine
