2018 Anthill Farms Syrah Campbell Ranch Vineyard 750 ml

Availability: In stock (9)

The Campbell Ranch vineyard is located a few miles from the Pacific Ocean, near the tiny town of Annapolis, and is farmed by Steve Campbell. At approximately 750 feet above sea level, it sits right at the boundary of the marine layer, ensuring that the cool, coastal climate delays ripening well beyond the warmer vineyards to the east. The two-decade-old vines grow on sandy, low-vigor Goldridge soil, which helps reduce yields and vegetative growth.

The nose of this wine is at once refined and decidedly rustic: fresh-cracked black pepper and savory miso overlay electric blue-fruited aromatics. The mouth continues the energy of the nose, but layer after layer of finely-textured tannin create a mouthfeel of heft and presence without excessive weight. Bright, fresh acids delineate the elegant finish, inviting another sip. The single-vineyard Syrahs age quite well, and would be at their peak in the early 2020s.
