Gusto Historico (meaning “historic taste”) is the new project from Marco Ochoa, one of the notorious co-founders of Mezcaloteca (and the export label, Mezcalosfera). Every release is made up of a single tiny batch, by nature unique and irreplicable.
Gusto Historico Tepextate/ Arroqueno/ Madrecuixe/ Cuixe was made by maestro mezcalero Victor Ramos in the community of Miahuatlan, Oaxaca - Ramos is an iconic 4th generation mezcalero in the district of Miahuatlán, deep in Oaxaca’s southern range. A blend of four rare agave (25% Agave marmorata, 25% Agave americana var. oaxacensis, 25% Agave karwinskii, and 25% Agave kawinskii), perfectly balanced to highlight each unique fingerprint: black pepper, salted caramel, dark cacao, damp leaves, tobacco, pear skin, peanut shells, and somehow a note of fresh Belgian waffles all swirl together, distinct yet harmonious. The agave was single distilled in a copper refrescadera still.
