The world's first Afro-Caribbean rum, blended from aged molasses rums from Barbados & Mauritius, Equiano is named for Olaudah Equiano - born in 1745 and sold into slavery as a teenager, he purchased his freedom with the profits of selling rum on the side. He went on to become a freedom fighter: a writer and speaker, his powerful memoirs went on to inform the transatlantic slave trade act and impact the freedom of people all over the world. Equiano’s values distill the beliefs of the distillery perfectly and that is why they give 5% of company profits and $2 of every bottle purchased to ground-level freedom and equality projects annually.
The original rum offers rich and deep flavors, with no added sugar, no spice, no flavorings and no coloring added.
93 Points - "Distilled and aged a minimum of eight years in Africa & the Caribbean, then finished in Cognac and ex-Bourbon casks, this rum is on the sweeter side of the spectrum. The rich amber hue and mild brown sugar aroma leads into a bold palate rich with mocha, fudge and toffee slicked with brown butter. Marmalade lingers into the long, cinnamon-spiced finish." - Wine Enthusiast (9/2021)
