El Mero Mero means “best of the best” - founded only in 2011, it is an artisanal brand of mezcal produced in San Dionisio, a municipality just south of Matatlan and west of San Baltazar.
The tobala is a very small wild type of maguey found in the mountains, so in order to produce mezcal a lot of magueyes are needed. The plant takes more than 12 years to mature. It offers waves of grapefruit plus hearty earth and mineral tones in the aromas. The palate is sweet and plush with a citrus creme note accented by a slight hint of charred sage brush.
