Ocho Tequila is a joint project between Master Distiller Carlos Camarena, a third generation tequilero, and Tomas Estes. Estes has been selling and promoting tequila in his Mexican bars and restaurants since 1976, and has gained recognition and respect throughout the worldwide bar and spirits community for his work promoting tequila, agave spirits and Mexican culture. It is made at La Alteña distillery in Jalisco, Mexico.
It's all about 8 (ocho): it takes an average of 8 years for agave to be ripe for harvesting, and 8 kilos make one liter of tequila, and this tequila is made from the 8th sample created by the Camarenas for Tomas Estes.
The Reposado follows the 8 theme, being aged in ex-American Whiskey barrels for 8 weeks and 8 days. Strong, broad floral presence on the nose along with sweet agave and oak notes. Initial flavors of soft, ripe agave followed by balanced fruit and acidity for smooth taste with a subtle oak presence. Oak continues into finish with soft tannin notes and lingering agave sweetness.
