Samuel Tinon branched out on his own in 2000, having worked at Royal Tokaji Company since 1991. Tinon is a strong believer in traditional Tokaji produced in an oxidative style, which can come as a shock to those expecting clean, polished, mellifluous Tokaji Aszu. For example, he often ages the wine under a flor of yeast, so you end up with an intriguing sherry/Tokaji hybrid that is almost jarring, yet stimulating to the senses. The 2005 vintage received 91 points from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, which had this to say about the wine: "It has a ripe bouquet of mandarin, clear honey and salted caramel that takes a little while to coalesce, but it unfolds wonderfully in the glass. The palate has a touch of bitter orange, marmalade and touches of walnut."
