Founded in 1995, Espolon produces single-sourced 100% pure Blue Weber Agave at Destiladora San Nicolas, an artisan distillery owned by Gruppo Campari located in the Los Altos (Highlands) region of Jalisco, Mexico. Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza brings multiple decades of expertise to the craftsmanship of Espolòn, applying as much artistry to the liquid as is found on the label. (Each label tells a story from Mexico’s rich history, capturing different moment, but all paying tribute to one true hero – the 19th century artist and printmaker José Guadalupe Posada.
The Reposado starts off life as Blanco. It’s then rested 6 months in lightly charred, new American oak barrels to create a more complex and well-rounded character. Outrageous pickling spice and caramel fudge aromas. A bold round entry leads to a dryish medium to full-bodied palate with rich roasted agave, sweet tropical fruit, intense vanilla and brown spices. Finishes with a long sweet spicy fade. A very hedonistic reposado that has anejo-like wood spiciness.
