El Mero Mero means “best of the best” - founded only in 2011, it is an artisanal brand of mezcal produced in San Dionisio, a municipality just south of Matatlan and west of San Baltazar.
The tepextate comes from wild-grown 25-year-old plants. An aromatic nose, with sharp, green notes and subtle hints of underripe stone fruit. A big, savory palate with spring onion and fresh garlic. Let it sit for a few minutes, return to find a ripe pear eau de vie and a crisp minerality. Very complex, with a dry finish that’s a clear marker of the producer and terroir.
